Investigation of Cake Layer Formation and Cake Filtration of Soft Particles in a Microfilter Device
Investigation of Cake Layer Formation and Cake Filtration of Soft Particles in a Microfilter Device
The behavior of soft deformable particles (microgels, cells, etc.) during microfiltration is far from understood. The accumulation of these particles can lead to cake formations, which greatly hinder the efficiency of microfiltration. This is a challenge in industrial applications of microfiltration. The goal of this master assignment is to determine the effects of particle deformability, size, operating pressure, and other relevant parameters on the formation of cake layers and it's effect on the process. Microfluidic device fabrication, particle synthesis, and experimentation will be used to achieve the goal of the project.
