Electrochromic polymers for optoelectronic computing

Electrochromic polymers for optoelectronic computing

Optoelectronic devices, using light and electricity, are promising for processing information at the speed of light. These devices are configured with various optical and electronic components. As devices are becoming smaller, packing of such Si-based components becomes challenging.

Electrochromic polymers with thickness of nanometres shows great potential for optoelectronic computing, as it demonstrates 4-in-1 functions as diode, resistor, memory, and light source. In this project, we will make polymers into electronic devices, and characterise their electrical and optical properties. Depending on the interest, the focus can be on:

1. Deposition of polymers in different thickness.

2. What is the thinnest uniform layer we can deposit?

3. How do electrical properties vary with thickness?

4. How do optical properties vary with thickness?

5. How do electrical and optical signals synchronized to transport information?

This project welcomes students from Chemistry, Physics, and Nano/Advanced/Biomedical Technology. We are open to suggestion on project tailored to your interest.
