Dear future Chemical Science and Engineering students,

You are at the beginning of a journey full of learning new things and meeting new people. We as KIKSTart 2023 are pleased to welcome you this coming August during the Kick-In and it is our great pleasure to help you on your journey.

We will try our best to make sure you are well prepared for the upcoming years and that your introduction to the university and Enschede will be amazing.

We as KIKSTart are responsible for making the do-groups, that you will be divided in. It has been proven that participating in the Kick-In in a dogroup, will result in long-lasting friendships! Apart from that, we take the lead in organizing the faculty Kick-In. During the Faculty Kick-In, you will have the opportunity to get to know the association, to meet more of your fellow students and get more information about the study itself.

This year I, Fiona Hafferl, am the chairperson of the KIKSTart. My role is to ensure communication and collaboration between the different people that are making this eventful week come to life. You could think of my role as the Avatar that has to balance all the tasks and elements to ensure a successful introduction week.

A bit about myself, I was born in a small town near Seville, Spain (but I’m actually Austrian). Although I’ve lived there my whole life, I’ve traveled through most of Europe with my family. Being exposed to many cultures since a young age made me realize there is much more to life than my small hometown. So when I graduated highschool in 2021 I took a leap and left my country to study in Enschede.  I’ve always been a “sciency” person, since Math, Chemistry and Physics were my favorite subjects in school, so the choice to study Chemical Science and Engineering wasn’t too difficult to make. I’m now entering my third year in CSE, and next to my study and my part-time jobs, I enjoy playing basketball, part-taking in European Youth Parliament events, and being active in the study association of Alembic.

I had quite a blast during my kick-in back in 2021, and last year I was a do group parent for the “Dys-functional group”. My goal is to provide you with the best 9-days of your life, unforgettable memories, and a swift transition into university life here at the UT.

If you decide to enroll for the introduction period, the KIKSTart will welcome you the 23rd of August where we can finally meet you in person! See you then!

Kind regards,

Fiona Hafferl
