EXPLORE 25

A few weeks ago, on the 13th of November, our students joined EXPLORE 25. An activity organized by us that gave students the opportunity to explore the different research groups that we have at the University.

We started this event off with some coffee and tea organized by the EduCo. After which we had a tour through the labs of the following research groups: Inorganic Material Science (IMS), Sustainable Process Technology (SPT), Photocatalytic Synthesis (PCS) and Developmental BioEngineering (DBE) Group and the department of Twente membranes.

For IMS, the students got to join them in Nanolab, where they saw the clean rooms, learned how they analyse hydrolysis and how pulsed laser deposition works. For SPT, they got to see the High Pressure Lab to see the reactor set-ups they have and their research on CO2-capture. They went to meander for PCS, where they showed two PhD projects, one based on photocatalysis and one on electrocatalysis. At DBE, the students learned about the methods that they use to resemble human tissue using cross linkable hydrogels and chemically modified polymers. At the Waterlab of Twente Membranes, they got to make their own membrane and see how they filter (waste) water.

After this, there was a nice dinner to close of the evening, where the students got to ask their final questions to the researchers. This activity gave our students a great opportunity to learn what the researchers do, and gain insights that they can use later on when choosing topics for their bachelor or master thesis.

We want to give a special thanks Christoph Baeumer, Andre ten Elshof, Louis van der Ham, Kasper Wenderich, Julieta Paez, Carlos de Albuquerque Pinheiro, PhD, Minye Jin, Heleen Sombekke, Nieck Benes and Rob Lammertink and others for their help with organising this event.
