Fundamentals of the Future

ExxonMobil Benelux is part of the energy and chemicals multinational Exxon Mobil Corporation, which is headquartered in the United States and is one of the most successful and powerful corporations of the world. ExxonMobil has two refineries in the Benelux, one in Rotterdam and another one in Antwerp, together with seven chemical plants, a center for research and development, a lube oil blending plant and several offices. From the oil wells, crude oil reaches the refineries in Antwerp and Rotterdam via tankers and/or pipelines. This starting material is then refined into numerous oil products – including fuels and special products such as lubricants, plasticizers and semi-finished products – and marketed through a fine distribution network in which the ExxonMobil depots play a key role.

Hoogewerff Fonds

The foundation Stichting Hoogewerff-Fonds was set up in 1917 by Prof.dr. S. Hoogewerff, who at the time was one of the professors at the Technische Hogeschool, the Institute of Technology in Delft. The activities of Stichting Hoogewerff-Fonds lie in the field of chemical engineering in the Netherlands. The foundation stimulates and rewards scientific research and education in this field in the broadest sense of the word. Moreover, it stimulates activities aimed at knowledge valorisation, industrial innovation, and new activities in the field. The foundation has financed endowed chairs at Eindhoven University of Technology and Delft University. Moreover, it financially supports educational events organized by the student associations that are active within the departments of chemical engineering at the Dutch universities.

The KNCV is the largest chemical professional association in the Netherlands. Our member base consists of people with a shared passion for molecules and includes chemists, life scientists, process technologists and (bio-)molecular scientists. Our 8,500 members, who work hard to bring the variety and richness of the molecular field to life, operate in business, education and government or study at universities or institutions of higher education in Netherlands.

MESA+ Institute for Nanotechnology of the University of Twente is a leading nanotechnology research institute. Our research focusses on key enabling technologies – nanotechnology, photonics, micro- and nano-electronics, biomolecular and polymer science, advanced materials, lab-on-chip, microfluidics – and exciting new cross-overs. Benefiting from infrastructure that rank among the very best on the globe, over 500 researchers deliver high- quality, competitive and frequently ground-breaking research. MESA+ has been the breeding ground for over 50 high-tech start-ups to date. Support is organized within the regional high-tech cluster.
